Multiple emails do not work (at all) - Roman Horváth - 10-10-2023

I am a new employee at the university library (in Bratislava, not that it would be any important), and I’ve been given the fresh task of communicating a bug in HelpDeskZ that our department has encountered.

Unfortunately, I don’t have administrative access because the HelpDeskZ instance is used outside the library as well, but I have gathered as much information as possible from my colleagues and will try to interpret it. If more information is needed, please write to me, and I will find out the necessary details.

The problem is related to the settings in Setup – Email Addresses. We don’t plan to use the web interface for collecting requests. Currently, three email addresses have been added through this setting ([email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]). This is important for us to distinguish between different types of requests (as they can have different natures) and for their more efficient assignment to various employees. However, only one of the entered addresses ever works.

That means we have managed to get only one address to work via Setup – Email Addresses. When emails sent to [email protected] were received into HelpDeskZ and could be worked with, emails sent to [email protected] were not received into the helpdesk. Or vice versa, emails to gyalogova1 worked, and those to the helpdesk did not. My colleagues have tested this in detail, and the result was always the same.

My colleagues are not sure if this is a bug or a feature; I personally see it as a bug.

How have the email addresses been configured with respect to the Incoming settings?

I currently use multiple addresses to different departments, with Outgoing set to PHP mail () and Incoming set to IMAP. Each email address picks up from a different email account.
