Installation Problems | Whoops! [SOLVED] - Luukullus - 08-04-2022

Good day,

Full of anticipation, I have now set up a Linux machine to also take a look at helpdeskz, but unfortunately I can't get any further here.
I have carefully worked through the documentation and fulfilled all system requirements.

Unfortunately, I always get the same message:

Whoops!
We seem to have hit a snag. Please try again later...

No matter where I am.
.htaccess is of course available.

I don't know of any solution that I could work through. I would be very happy about some help.

System info:
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Apache (Mod rewrite is enabled and works)
php7.4.3 (intl, mbstring and imap installed and confirmed in php info)
MySQL Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.3.34-MariaDB, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2
phpmyadmin installed (works fine. wouldnt without mod_rewrite)

Web server root: /var/www/html

If there is anything more you need to know, just tell me.

Bye,
Luuk

Hi again..

After some troubleshooting i found the solution for this Problem.
If Linux is the operating system, then folder permissions are. The disto doesn't really matter.

In my case it was as already written: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Since the syntax is as follows:
chmod -R 777 /var/www/html/ -v

chmod: command for modifying permissions
-R: Affects all subdirectories of the specified incl files
777: Stands for the permission itself 7=read 7=write 7=run
/var/www/html/: The path where the website is located (can be different)
-v: Print what is happening to the console. Without it runs "mute"

It would be a great thing if the permissions were included in the documentation. Even if it's just a quick reminder in the troubleshoot area.
Whether it has to be 777 remains to be seen. But I wanted to make sure there were enough rights.

0755 will work for the folders but you can probably change the permissions on the files to be a little less lax. I've just reviewed my file permissions and have the following:

0750 - root Helpdeskz folder
0755 - assets, docs, hdz and upload folders, as well as their subfolders
0644 - all files

I think the folders could probably be further tweaked to harden them but this works for me. I hope that it helps.

Excellent!

Thank you for the info. 777 was just the path of laziness for me.
If the permissions match, then it would be perfect if we included it somewhere in the documentation Smile

Thank you!
