Is the Paleo Diet Just a Fad or a Genuine Weight Loss Diet

If you've wanted to lose weight for a long time, that's understandable. Everyone would want to get rid of some weight. How you go about losing that weight is what matters. The diet is patterned after the diet early humans supposedly ate back in the Paleolithic era. Of course, its historical accuracy is very much open for debate. So is the Paleo diet a diet you should try? Here is some information that can help you make the decision.



Technically, the Paleo diet was invented by Walter L. Voegtlin who is a gastroenterologist. In 1975, Voegtlin published a book Hcg Diet plan Prepare Ideas called The Stone Age Diet. Voegtlin argued that man is a carnivore. He claimed that a meat diet is what humans ate starting from the Paleolithic era. He said it was primarily protein and fat with carbohydrates taking a small back seat. Voegtlin's findings are based on treating people with IBS, Crohn's disease, and a variety of dietary ailments. It is important to note that he is not a historian or an archaeologist. One of the advantages of eating the foods in this diet is that the meat you are allowed/encouraged to eat is higher in omega-3 fatty acids. While it's not known why this is so, the fact is that omega-3 fatty acids are essential to our health. Omega-3s are great for helping to keep your cardiovascular health intact as well as ensuring the proper development of a person's brains and eyes. Although you'll find that nearly all meats have omega-3 fatty acids, fish and marine wildlife have the highest concentrations of these compounds.



Most diets restrict the size of your meal portions. With the Paleo diet, however, portion size is relative. The size of your meals depends on how you're using the diet. Obviously if you want to use the Paleo diet to lose weight you are going to go with smaller portion sizes. Athletes, however, who are on the Paleo diet would be eating bigger portions.



It's your choice whether or not to follow the Paleo diet. The Paleo diet actually has a number of variants so if you don't like the one you're one, you'll find it easy to switch to a different one and give it another try. But is this diet right for you? The best person to ask that is your doctor. Don't get on the Paleo diet without talking to your doctor first, though. This is so you can be sure the diet is the right image diet for you.
